Honda, which is part of Sattari taluka, is known for the Automobile Corporation of Goa Ltd (ACGL), a company that manufactures buses for many of its Indian and international clientele.
Etymologically, the name Honda is derived from hon’no, which means “little water body” or “pond.” As the village is located at the foot of the Western Ghats, rainwater flowing downhill over the years has created hollow crevices in the land. This hollow terrain was called hon’no, which was eventually renamed Honda.
After the panchayat system was introduced in 1963 by the Indian administration, the Honda village panchayat was formed, and its jurisdiction has 11 wards in which resides its population of 9,000 people. The village’s traditional wards are Gaonkar, Bodan, Posto, Wadakade, Dhangar, Ponshemol, Chodankar, Rane, Varcha, Narayan Nagar, Azooba Nagar and Vadadev Nagar.
